Emergency Medicine Physician

About the role

Join a collegial emergency medicine team at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, BC. The 24/7 emergency department sees about 22,000 visits annually and offers a diverse case mix with many procedural opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide acute care to patients presenting to the emergency department, managing a wide range of medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric and psychiatric emergencies.
• Collaborate with specialists in internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, general surgery, pediatrics and psychiatry.
• Teach and mentor medical students and residents as part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s rural teaching program.
• Participate in leadership development programs such as Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program.
• Contribute to the ongoing redevelopment of the hospital, including the new expanded emergency department.

Required profile

• Medical degree with a valid licence to practice in Canada.
• Certification in Family Medicine (CCFP) with Emergency Medicine designation, CCFP(EM), or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (FRCPC) in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility to work in British Columbia.
• Willingness to work in a rural community and engage in teaching activities.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in emergency medicine, including assessment, diagnosis and management of acute conditions.
• Ability to perform common emergency procedures.
• Effective communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary staff.
