Elementary Grade 1 Homeroom Teacher (Long Term Occasional)

About the role

The York Region District School Board is seeking a dedicated Grade 1 Homeroom Teacher for a Long Term Occasional (LTO) position. This full‑time role may extend to January 15, 2027, offering a rewarding opportunity to contribute to student success in a supportive public‑education environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess Grade 1 curriculum in alignment with provincial standards.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom atmosphere.
• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to support student learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
• Participate in professional development and school community activities.

Required profile

• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or in the process of becoming qualified before the start date.
• Provide at least three professional teaching references (external candidates) or two references including a YRDSB administrator (internal candidates).
• Successful completion of a satisfactory police record check.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Ontario elementary curriculum and teaching practices.
• Ability to manage a Grade 1 classroom effectively.
