Ecological Technician

About the role

Keneco Environmental Inc. is looking for an Ecological Technician to support environmental assessment, reclamation, and monitoring programs for upstream oil and gas projects across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Based in Calgary, the role combines office work with regular field trips to project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ecological and environmental field investigations, including soil, groundwater, surface water, and vegetation assessments.
• Assist in Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs).
• Collect and document environmental data and samples to support assessments and reclamation projects.
• Monitor air, water, and soil quality and help interpret analytical results.
• Track soil quality, vegetation establishment, land disturbance, and reclamation progress.
• Support reclamation and remediation activities, including site inspections and revegetation monitoring.
• Ensure contractor operations comply with environmental, reclamation, health, and safety requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, regulatory submissions, and contribute to field program coordination.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in environmental or ecological field work.
• Experience with environmental site assessments (Phase I/II preferred) and monitoring programs.
• Familiarity with upstream oil and gas site conditions is an asset.
