Early Learning Assistant – After‑School Program (Term)

About the role

The Early Learning Assistant supports the Extended Day Program at John Young Elementary School, providing supervised childcare for students after school hours. Working under the direction of an Early Childhood Educator, you will help create a safe, engaging environment that promotes play‑based learning.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise children aged 5‑12 during the after‑school period (3:00‑5:30 pm).
• Facilitate child‑centered play activities and model appropriate behaviour.
• Assist the Early Childhood Educator with daily program set‑up and clean‑up.
• Maintain a safe and inclusive environment, following board policies and health guidelines.
• Complete required documentation and communicate any concerns to staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma.
• Minimum one year of post‑secondary experience providing childcare to school‑age children in a group setting.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification from a WSIB‑approved provider.
• Recent Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector (within 6 months for new hires, within 5 years for current employees).
• Current immunisation record (MMR, Tdap) and proof of chicken‑pox immunity or vaccination.

Required skills

• Standard First Aid certification.
• CPR Level C certification.
