Director, Engineering & Business Systems

About the role

The Director, Engineering & Business Systems will lead the Engineering and Business Systems team within Chainalysis’ Business Automation, Data and Systems organization. This senior role is responsible for shaping the technical roadmap, modernizing platform and data engineering practices, and ensuring core business systems support rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the shift from a traditional IT‑centric model to a platform‑ and data‑engineering‑first organization.
• Own the technical architecture, design and delivery roadmap for business systems, enterprise data and integrations.
• Manage and develop engineering managers and their direct reports, providing mentorship and career pathing.
• Establish standards, style guides, workflows and ceremonies that incorporate AI‑driven processes.
• Partner with Product, Success and Program Management to translate business requirements into technical scope and sequencing.
• Serve as the internal technical counterpart to vendors, reviewing architecture proposals and approving designs.
• Maintain security, RBAC and data‑governance posture of the BADaS platforms, especially for audit and access‑control risk.
• Collaborate with other engineering leaders to leverage existing platforms, components and code‑bases.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in software, platform or data engineering, with at least 4 years managing engineers and engineering managers.
• Proven organizational leadership, hiring, career‑pathing and succession planning in a multi‑manager environment.
• Comfort operating in an ambiguous, transformation‑in‑progress setting.
• Demonstrated ownership of team‑based technical architecture and engineering practices (repo management, CI/CD, code review, testing).
• Experience managing a mixed organization of engineers, data engineers and platform/systems administrators.
• Data‑first orientation with strong understanding of data architecture and flow.
