Director, Capital Planning & Development

About the role

The Director, Capital Planning & Development for UBC Okanagan leads the campus-wide capital planning function, overseeing long‑term planning, design, construction, renewal and renovation of institutional facilities, including student housing and athletics.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the campus Capital Planning and Development function, covering long‑term capital planning, project planning, design, construction, renewal and renovation of all institutional facilities, including student housing and athletics.
• Oversee individual projects with budgets up to $150 million, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope and budget.
• Collaborate with UBC Okanagan Directors for Campus Planning, Campus Operations & Risk Management, and with the UBC Vancouver Facilities team to align processes, procedures and policies across campuses.
• Engage with a wide range of campus stakeholders – UBCO Executive, student leadership, academic departments, UBC Properties Trust, Treasury, Development & Alumni Engagement, Sustainability, IT Services, Student Housing & Hospitality, and Athletics – to create functional and inspiring spaces.
• Report jointly to the Associate Vice‑President, Finance and Operations (Okanagan) and the Associate Vice‑President, Facilities (Vancouver).

Required profile

• Extensive experience in capital planning, large‑scale construction or facilities management within a complex organization.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multi‑million‑dollar projects.
• Strong understanding of university‑level governance, budgeting and risk management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
