Director and Chief Human Resources Officer

About the role

Peel Region, which serves more than 1.6 million residents and about 240,000 businesses in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, is hiring a Director and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) in Brampton, Ontario, on a hybrid basis. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the CHRO is the region's senior-most people executive and strategic adviser to the Chief Administrative Officer, Regional Council and the Executive Leadership Team. The position is an existing vacancy.

Key responsibilities

• Set the strategic direction for Human Resources and advance the People Strategy through the 2027-2029 Strategic Plan, building leadership, capabilities and workforce resilience.
• Modernize the HR function, including workforce planning, executive and organizational talent, labour relations and the employee and leader experience.
• Lead the full HR portfolio: talent acquisition, workforce planning, labour relations and collective bargaining, total rewards, pensions, learning and leadership development, performance, recognition, well-being, health and safety, HR policy and workforce analytics.
• Shape workforce strategy in the context of AI, automation and emerging technologies, and champion responsible job redesign, reskilling, mobility and redeployment.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of progressively senior leadership experience with broad portfolio accountability.
• Proven track record of shaping enterprise people strategies and delivering complex transformation in a unionized, regulated environment.
• Experience advising a CAO, Council or executive leadership team on workforce, labour, governance and organizational matters.
• Demonstrated experience sponsoring and leading the implementation and optimization of enterprise HCM or ERP systems.
• Municipal or broader public-sector experience is strongly preferred.
