Development Accountant

About the role

The Development Accountant manages day‑to‑day financials for Caliber Communities’ active land development and homebuilding projects. This role owns job costing, budget‑to‑actual tracking, draw preparation and monthly reconciliations, providing the development, construction and executive teams with accurate, timely financial visibility. Success means no project’s financial picture is ever a surprise.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and maintain job cost budgets in the ERP system and code invoices to the correct budget lines.
• Prepare and submit monthly draw requests to lenders and equity partners, reconciling draw schedules against approved budgets and actual spend.
• Track budget‑to‑actual variances, flag overruns early, explain drivers and partner with project managers to keep forecasts current.
• Review and code development‑related invoices, ensure required documentation before payment and coordinate with vendors.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly project financial packages, including cash flow summaries and support for joint‑venture, investor reporting and loan covenants.
• Reconcile job cost reports to draw requests each month to ensure accuracy of project financial records.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close and respond to lender, investor and audit requests.
• Identify and implement process improvements for job cost reporting, draw preparation and reconciliations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in real‑estate development, homebuilding or construction.
• Working knowledge of GAAP, including real‑estate and construction capitalization principles.
• CPA license or progress toward CPA is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a job‑cost or ERP system (e.g., Yardi, Sage Intacct, Procore, Premier, JD Edwards).
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Knowledge of GAAP accounting standards.
• Experience with job costing and budgeting processes.
• Ability to prepare draw requests and financial reporting packages.
