Department Communications Advisor

About the role

The Department Communications Advisor provides strategic communication guidance to support the department’s media relations, issues management and stakeholder engagement. This role works closely with corporate stakeholders to develop and implement communication initiatives that align with York Region’s broader strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with corporate stakeholders and follow strategic leadership direction for communications functions.
• Advise on internal and external communication strategies, media relations, and issues management.
• Research, develop, and deliver communication strategies, programs, and services.
• Support the planning and execution of corporate-wide initiatives, special projects, and communications campaigns.
• Lead the creation of communication materials and ensure consistent messaging across channels.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or media relations within a public‑sector environment.
• Strong analytical and research abilities to inform communication strategies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
