Dental Hygienist

About the role

The Dental Hygienist supports clinical, research and teaching activities within the university dental clinic. Working under the supervision of the immediate manager, the role combines patient care, radiographic services and assistance to students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform intra‑oral, panoramic, cephalometric and CBCT imaging for patients and mannequins.
• Review radiographs for diagnostic quality and flag concerns for further review.
• Maintain radiology equipment, troubleshoot issues, and ensure infection‑control standards in radiology rooms.
• Capture intra‑ and extra‑oral photographs and manage image files for treatment planning.
• Provide periodontal support, including ultrasonic and hand scaling, polishing, fluoride varnish application and oral hygiene instruction.
• Assist students with radiographic techniques, ergonomics and clinical protocols.
• Organise and transfer radiographic records, prepare CDs or digital files for consultations and insurance approvals.
• Communicate with clinic managers and sterilisation staff regarding equipment needs and supply shortages.

Required profile

• Current enrollment or employment at McGill University is required for internal candidates; external candidates must follow the university’s application process.
