Dean, Faculty of Music

About the role

Wilfrid Laurier University is seeking a Dean of the Faculty of Music, one of Canada's leading centres for music education, covering classical performance, Contemporary/Commercial Music, community music, music education, music therapy and industry-focused programming. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, and acts as the Faculty's senior academic and administrative leader, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction. The position is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee academic planning and program innovation, and faculty and student recruitment
• Lead talent development, financial and resource stewardship, fundraising and external relations
• Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and build new local, national and international partnerships
• Work with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, community organizations and industry partners to advance the Faculty's growth, differentiation, impact and sustainability
• Champion academic excellence, artistic innovation, student success and inclusive excellence, and strengthen Laurier's position as a leader in music education, community music, research, performance and creative practice

Required profile

• A terminal degree and eligibility for appointment at the rank of Full Professor
• Demonstrated record of administrative leadership in a post-secondary institution, arts organization or comparable environment
• Strong operational and financial acumen, and success in building relationships with donors and external partners
• Ability to inspire and unite diverse stakeholders around a shared vision
• Appreciation of the full breadth of music and the ability to support diverse students and faculty
• Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and Indigenous reconciliation
