Day Service Worker – Campus Custodial Services

About the role

The Day Service Worker provides comprehensive cleaning and minor maintenance services for offices, classrooms, labs and common areas on the University of British Columbia's Point Grey campus. Working on the day shift, you will ensure that all facilities are clean, safe and ready for university activities, including exams and ceremonies.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, polish, shampoo, disinfect and scrub floors, walls, fixtures, furniture and appliances.
• Operate light‑ and heavy‑duty hand or power‑cleaning equipment as required.
• Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials and ensure equipment is in good working order.
• Clean spillages, spot‑wash and wax affected floor areas.
• Clean interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, shades and Venetian blinds.
• Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels and writing paper.
• Sweep sidewalks, clear snow when needed, and collect and dispose of garbage and waste.
• Clean light fixtures, unplug toilets and report any maintenance or repair needs.

Required profile

• Reports to the Superintendent, Custodial Services or designated supervisor.
• Capable of working independently or as part of a team depending on the task.
• Follows daily work assignments and instructions from the Head Service Worker.
• Committed to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.
