Custodian, Athletics & Recreation

About the role

The University of British Columbia’s Athletics & Recreation department is seeking two part‑time custodians to maintain the Rec North facilities. Working under supervision, you will ensure that the recreation centre remains clean, safe and welcoming for students, staff and visitors throughout its extended operating hours.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, polish and shampoo floors, walls, fixtures and furniture.
• Operate hand‑held and powered cleaning equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
• Restock consumables such as toilet paper, paper towels and sanitary products.
• Clean interior and exterior glass surfaces, windows and shades.
• Respond to spills, spot‑clean and disinfect affected areas promptly.
• Maintain outdoor areas, sweep sidewalks and clear snow when required.
• Collect and dispose of garbage and recycling according to schedule.

Required profile

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work schedules.
• Commitment to safe work practices and ability to work near patrons during open hours.
• Flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends as operational needs dictate.
• Reliability and attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness standards.

Required skills

• Operation of hand‑held and powered cleaning equipment.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
