Cyber Security and Privacy Specialist

About the role

The High Prairie School Division is looking for a Cyber Security and Privacy Specialist to lead technical information‑security initiatives and ensure compliance with Alberta’s privacy legislation. You will act as the bridge between our network infrastructure and legislative requirements, translating policy into secure technical configurations.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Network Analyst to maintain and secure Security Zones (Restricted, Internal, External, Public) with appropriate authentication methods.
• Work under the Privacy and Access Officer to align technical safeguards with ATIA and POPA.
• Configure, monitor, and analyze audit logs for unauthorized access, anomalous activity, or bulk data extraction.
• Provide technical input for Privacy Impact Assessments and Algorithmic Impact Assessments.
• Lead technical response to privacy breaches, coordinating forensics and containment.
• Ensure encryption of personal data in transit and storage, keeping all data within Canada.
• Support ATIA request fulfillment by locating, retrieving, and securely severing digital records.

Required profile

• Understanding of Alberta’s ATIA and POPA (or strong willingness to learn).
• Proven ability to implement firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and multi‑factor authentication.
• Investigative skills to conduct technical investigations on a balance‑of‑probabilities basis.
• Willingness to sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Oath.
