Course Lecturer – Information Studies (Fall 2026)

About the role

McGill University’s School of Information Studies is seeking qualified Course Lecturers to teach two graduate‑level courses in the Fall 2026 term. The position involves delivering lectures, guiding student projects, and assessing performance for a semester‑long class.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver weekly lectures for INFS 609 (Metadata and Access) and INFS 614 (Public Libraries).
• Develop course materials, assignments, and assessment tools.
• Facilitate classroom discussions and provide academic support to students.
• Maintain course records and grade submissions in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with the School of Information Studies on curriculum development.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Information Studies, Library Science, Archival Studies, or a closely related field.
• Successful completion of graduate‑level coursework in metadata, access, or public libraries.
• Minimum two years professional experience as an archivist (preferably academic) or as a public librarian.
• Prior teaching experience at the university level is an asset.

Required skills

• Familiarity with metadata schemas such as MARC, Dublin Core, and EAD.
• Proficiency in markup languages including XML, HTML, and SGML, as well as DTD creation.
• Knowledge of vocabulary control and metadata management practices.
• Understanding of public library operations and the impact of information technologies.
