Course Lecturer – Advanced Indigenous Language (Inuktitut)

About the role

The University of McGill’s Office of First Nations and Inuit Education is seeking a qualified lecturer to teach the advanced Indigenous language course (Inuktitut) – EDEC 344 716 – in the fall of 2026. The instructor will deliver intensive classroom sessions in Kuujjuaq, covering Indigenous phonology, syntax, and the sociocultural impacts of colonialism.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and interactive workshops from September 28 to October 9, 2026, following the scheduled timetable.
• Adapt course content to reflect the latest research and the cultural context of the Kuujjuaq community.
• Coordinate with the partnering school board and participate in pre‑course planning activities.
• Assess student performance and provide feedback aligned with Quebec Education program standards.
• Maintain accurate records and submit required reports to the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Indigenous studies, linguistics, or a related field.
• Expert knowledge of Inuktitut language structure, phonology, and syntax.
• Familiarity with the Quebec Education program and the 13 professional competencies defined by the Ministère de l’Éducation.
• Demonstrated experience teaching Indigenous language courses or working in Indigenous communities.
• Understanding of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous peoples and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

• Curriculum development grounded in Indigenous pedagogies.
• Ability to modify instructional materials to suit local cultural and educational contexts.
