Counsel (Litigation)

About the role

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is seeking a Litigation Counsel to join its Legal Services Division. This permanent, in‑office role supports the regulator’s mandate by providing expert legal advice and representation across a range of regulated sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, timely litigation advice on statutes and legislative instruments administered by the AGCO.
• Represent the AGCO in administrative tribunals, Divisional Court, and Court of Appeal matters, including appeals and judicial reviews.
• Draft and issue legal documents such as Letters of Incident, Orders, Notices of Proposal, rulings, and administrative monetary penalties.
• Advise on compliance, eligibility, and corporate initiatives, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support policy development and regulatory processes with strategic legal counsel.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of legal experience, preferably within the public service, a regulatory environment, or a regulated entity.
• Proven expertise in administrative law litigation and handling complex cases.
• Familiarity with the sectors regulated by the AGCO and the related legislation.
• Strong judgment, decision‑making ability, and collaborative mindset.
