Cost Accountant

About the role

The Cost Accountant reports to the Controller and provides financial and analytical support to plant management. This role ensures the integrity of the plant’s financial reporting and helps drive cost‑efficiency initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and analyse daily, weekly and monthly production reports, including costing, inventory, yields, utility usage, scrap/waste and labour efficiency.
• Support daily direction‑setting meetings (DDS) with up‑to‑date yield and labour data to enable corrective actions.
• Analyse variances between actual and standard costs for finished goods, raw materials and labour, and assess their impact on plant performance.
• Update standard cost models (MCM) for raw materials, labour and overhead based on BOMs, routings and actual performance.
• Conduct product audits to verify that product costs reflect production processes.
• Reconcile finished‑goods inventory, monitor physical counts and ensure timely receipt of production inputs.
• Provide backup support to the finance team and contribute to ad‑hoc projects.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in accounting or finance.
• At least 3 years of cost‑accounting experience in an integrated manufacturing environment.
• Pursuing a CPA designation.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Strong written and oral communication skills across departments.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Advanced Excel skills, especially Pivot Tables and file linking.
• Experience with ERP systems; familiarity with AS400 is an asset.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range of CAD 56,523 – 75,458 per year.
• Eligibility for a bonus up to 7 % of base salary, subject to plan terms.
