Controller – Finance & Accounting

About the role

Flatiron Crane Company is seeking a Controller to lead its finance and accounting function. The role provides strategic financial insight to senior leadership while overseeing day‑to‑day accounting, budgeting, forecasting and audit coordination. This position ensures compliance with Canadian accounting standards and strong internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee full‑cycle accounting including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, general ledger and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and ensure ASPE/IFRS compliance.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close, journal entries, accruals and reconciliations.
• Apply percentage‑of‑completion accounting for long‑term projects, managing revenue recognition, cost tracking and WIP reporting.
• Develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts and monitor budget‑to‑actual variances.
• Provide financial analysis, cash‑flow forecasting and strategic recommendations to leadership.
• Design, implement and monitor internal controls; ensure CRA, GST/HST/PST/QST compliance.
• Coordinate internal and external audits and support corporate tax reporting.
• Manage and mentor the accounting/finance team, establishing procedures and best practices.
• Present financial performance updates to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• CPA designation required or strongly preferred.
• 5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian tax and accounting regulations.
• Demonstrated experience with percentage‑of‑completion accounting in a project‑based environment.

Required skills

• Microsoft Dynamics NAV or similar ERP system.
• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
