Controller – Contract (GTA)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller on a contract basis to lead the accounting function for a client in the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will oversee financial statement preparation, month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, general ledger, cost and inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Coordinate and direct the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts and variance analysis.
• Prepare accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
• Lead internal management and regulatory reporting processes.
• Research technical accounting issues to ensure compliance.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reporting.
• Handle local, state and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Required profile

• 5+ years of accounting and finance experience.
• Proven leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Advanced degree in Accounting or Business; CPA or equivalent preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS.
• Strong client‑service orientation and a positive “can‑do” attitude.
• Ability to work autonomously and commit for the duration of the engagement.
