Senior Financial Analyst

About the role

The Senior Financial Analyst in Capital Financial Reporting (CFR) at UBC’s Office of the Comptroller leads capital budgeting, forecasting and analysis to support university‑wide decision‑making. The role ensures accurate financial reporting for more than $1 billion of capital projects and aligns expenditures with Board‑approved budgets and funding restrictions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee capital budgeting, forecasting and analysis, producing detailed reports and complex financial models for senior management.
• Support financial reporting and audits of large‑scale capital projects, ensuring compliance with public‑sector accounting standards.
• Manage project life‑cycle reporting within Workday and act as a business partner to various university programs.
• Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual capital‑related financial statements and management reporting.
• Research and prepare accounting treatment memos on complex issues, recommending changes to meet GAAP/IFRS requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to accelerate close periods and strengthen internal controls.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and completion of the CPA program (CA, CGA or CMA).
• Minimum seven years of experience in financial reporting, analysis, budgeting or audit, preferably in the public sector.
