About the role

TD Legal is seeking a Senior Counsel specializing in insurance litigation to join its Toronto team. The role supports TD Insurance across property, casualty, life and health lines, providing strategic and tactical legal advice while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage active litigation matters involving TD Insurance, including cases proceeding to trial or appeal.
• Instruct and supervise external counsel across all court levels, without performing in‑court advocacy.
• Provide legal advice on class actions, coverage disputes, first‑party claims, underwriting issues, and related insurance matters.
• Develop and mentor junior legal staff and contribute to special projects within the Legal Department.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to identify and mitigate litigation risks.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in insurance litigation, preferably within property, casualty, or life & health sectors.
• Proven ability to manage complex cases and coordinate external counsel.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
