Communication Clerk – Medicine (Temporary Part‑Time)

About the role

The Medicine Department at Groves Memorial Community Hospital is seeking a temporary part‑time Communication Clerk to support patient flow and departmental communication. This unionized position reports to the department supervisor and works closely with clinicians, patients and administrative staff.

Key responsibilities

• Electronic registration, admission, discharge and transfer of patients.
• Assess and manage medical records and reporting to provincial web‑based programs (e.g., CCIS).
• Answer patient and health‑care team inquiries by phone and in person.
• Word processing, order entry and processing physician orders.
• Chart assembly, filing, requisition completion and form photocopying.
• Arrange tests, procedures and transportation, using PTAC knowledge.
• Maintain clerical supplies and support departmental operations.

Required profile

• Medical terminology course (required).
• Medical Office Administration Certificate or related program (preferred).
• Previous clerical experience in a medical setting.
• Excellent attendance record and documented dependability.
• Successful reference checks, Police Vulnerable Sector Check and pre‑employment health assessment.

Required skills

• Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Meditech ADT and Order Entry modules.
• Working knowledge of PTAC.
• Familiarity with the BORN (Better Outcomes Registry of Ontario) system.
