Combustion Engineer – Hydrogen‑Diesel Retrofit

About the role

We are looking for a Combustion Engineer to lead the development and calibration of hydrogen‑diesel dual‑fuel engines for maritime applications. The role will define combustion recipes, run tests, and collaborate with control engineers to deliver low‑emission engine maps for vessel deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Build hybrid strategy: H₂ substitution, diesel pilot timing, lambda/EGR control, rail pressures, split injections.
• Plan and execute dyno and on‑vessel design of experiments; instrument for emissions and cylinder‑pressure.
• Analyze heat‑release, CA50, knock, IMEP, BSFC, BSNOx, PM, misfire, variability; translate insights into calibrations and ECU limits.
• Co‑specify sensors, actuators and state machines with control engineering; validate via simulation/HIL and keep models correlated (GT‑SUITE, CONVERGE, STAR‑CCM+).
• Write test plans, calibration notes and release criteria; support FAT/HAT/SAT and commissioning with strong safety discipline.

Required profile

• MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on combustion/IC engines, or BS with equivalent experience.
• Hands‑on experience in engine testing, calibration, cylinder‑pressure analysis and emissions testing.
• Strong understanding of combustion fundamentals (ignition delay, knock, mixing, emissions formation, aftertreatment interactions).
• Ability to convert analysis into runnable maps/limits on real‑time ECUs and produce clear documentation.
