About the role
The City of Belleville is seeking a motivated and strategic individual to join its People & Corporate Services Department as a By‑Law Enforcement Officer. In this permanent, full‑time position you will ensure compliance with municipal bylaws and related legislation, protecting public safety and property.
Key responsibilities
- Identify potential bylaw violations and determine appropriate responses in line with legislation.
- Conduct investigations, site inspections, and enforce city bylaws related to structure, plumbing, wiring, heating, sanitation, fire safety, and other matters.
- Respond to public inquiries, schedule and perform inspections, and serve notices or orders to property owners and tenants.
- Document findings, prepare reports, and recommend legal action when necessary.
- Escalate complex issues beyond scope to senior staff or management.
Required profile
- Ability to interpret municipal bylaws and related legislation.
- Strong investigative and analytical skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication for negotiating compliance and serving notices.
- Capacity to work independently while adhering to established procedures and timelines.
- Willingness to work the scheduled hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 am‑4:30 pm.
