Building Inspector I

About the role

The Town of Whitby is seeking a Building Inspector I to join its Building Inspections team. This entry‑level position supports the community by ensuring residential construction complies with the Ontario Building Code and municipal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform legislated building inspections for houses and residential buildings covered by Part 9, Division B of the Ontario Building Code.
• Document inspection findings, issue reports, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Interact professionally with residents, contractors, elected officials, and internal staff while upholding the Town’s CARE values.
• Maintain accurate records in the municipal inspection system.
• Assist the Supervisor of Building Inspections with scheduling and administrative tasks as needed.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to community service and collaborative work environments.
• Strong communication skills for building rapport with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret and apply building code regulations accurately.
• Attention to detail and accountability in reporting.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (Part 9, Division B).
