Back-End Software Engineer (Kotlin)

About the role

Manulife is hiring a Back-End Software Engineer (Kotlin) in Montreal, Quebec, working on its native Android and iOS apps. The backend services power new features and directly affect the experience of millions of users. The position is an existing vacancy and is offered in a hybrid arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build APIs and backend services that expose new capabilities to members.
• Apply creative problem-solving to turn software designs and architecture into reality.
• Design, code, unit test and integrate new features as defined by the Product Owner and the team.
• Work in an Agile environment and contribute to automated tests for high-quality, reliable code.
• Update progress daily in Jira and Kanban boards and contribute to deployment, maintenance, support and runbook documentation.

Required profile

• 3+ years of back-end development experience.
• Ability to take part in ideation and brainstorming sessions and in Agile ceremonies and weekly meetings, including estimating backlog items and challenging requirements.

Required skills

• Kotlin and Java (Spring Boot, Spring Security)
• JavaScript (ReactJS, NodeJS, Redux)
• Unit and integration testing frameworks and BDD tools (Cucumber)
• CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and cloud platforms (Azure Kubernetes Service, Cloud Foundry)
• Terraform, Flux, ConfigMaps and microservices and event-driven architectures
• SAP, REST, GraphQL services

What we offer

• Expected salary range of $86,100 to $136,100 CAD, varying with location and qualifications.
