Auxiliary ADaPT Technician – Lab Support

About the role

The Ancient DNA and Proteins Technology (ADαPT) laboratory at UBC seeks an Auxiliary ADaPT Technician to provide day‑to‑day technical support across multiple research labs. Working under the direction of the ADαPT Director, you will maintain equipment, ensure safety compliance, and assist students in a fast‑paced archaeological science environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment such as PCR/qPCR amplifiers, electrophoresis gel docks, microscopes, balances, biosafety cabinets and centrifuges.
• Provide training to undergraduate and Work‑Learn students on specialized techniques and equipment.
• Manage inventory, receive supplies, and place orders following established procedures.
• Present equipment and maintenance updates at weekly ADαPT staff meetings.

Required profile

• High school graduation with additional training and at least two years of related laboratory experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and respect for diverse perspectives.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and supervise lower‑classification workers.
