Assistant Professor, tenure-track (Canada Impact+ Emerging Leader)

About the role

The Department of Medicine and the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia seek an early‑career researcher to join as a tenure‑track Assistant Professor. The position is part of the Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders program, focusing on Global Health Engineering and Equitable Health Technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a research program that designs, translates, implements and evaluates innovative technologies to improve health outcomes and advance equity across diverse populations and resource settings.
• Develop and test solutions in medical devices, diagnostics, biosensors, wearables, therapeutics, biotechnology, digital health, artificial intelligence and data science.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, communities, patients, health authorities and public‑health organisations to ensure solutions are scalable and responsive.
• Leverage UBC research infrastructure such as the Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry for rapid prototyping and validation.
• Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in both the Department of Medicine and the School of Biomedical Engineering.
• Mentor students at all levels and provide service to departmental and university committees.

Required profile

• MD and/or PhD with eligibility for an Assistant Professor appointment at UBC.
• Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Limited Licensee with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
• Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research, teaching and mentorship.
• Established or emerging research program in Global Health Engineering, Equitable Health Technologies or related fields.

What we offer

• Competitive salary between $140,000 and $160,000 per annum.
• Canada Impact+ Emerging Leader funding of $100,000 annually for six years, renewable once.
