Associate Director, Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism & Diabetes

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking an Associate Director to lead the Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD). Reporting to the Scientific Director, you will drive the Institute’s strategic vision, manage day‑to‑day operations, and support high‑impact research initiatives across Canada and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee financial, human‑resource and operational functions for the INMD.
• Develop, implement and evaluate strategic programs and projects aligned with the Institute’s mandate.
• Collaborate with CIHR staff, federal and provincial officials, and external researchers to advance nutrition, metabolism and diabetes research.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team, providing mentorship and performance management.
• Prepare and monitor budgets, ensuring compliance with funding agreements.
• Represent the Institute at national and international forums.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a health‑related discipline.
• Extensive experience in research administration, program development, and strategic leadership.
• Proven ability to manage complex budgets and large‑scale projects.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with senior government officials, funding agencies, and academic partners.
• Demonstrated experience supervising staff and fostering collaborative environments.
