Front Desk Harm Reduction Support Worker – Casual Call Out

About the role

The Front Desk Harm Reduction Support Worker is the first point of contact for clients accessing AVI services between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. The role provides low‑barrier harm‑reduction education, crisis intervention, supply distribution and overdose response while supporting the daily operations of the Positive Wellness Program and other front‑desk activities.

Key responsibilities

• Cover the front desk, Positive Wellness Program and drop‑in spaces, monitoring lobby and stairwell areas.
• Greet and engage clients, service providers and the public in person and by phone, directing them to appropriate programs.
• Perform administrative duties such as tracking statistics, restocking supplies, organizing the reception area and maintaining filing systems.
• Distribute harm‑reduction supplies, provide education on safer substance use, and make referrals to additional services.
• Respond to overdoses and critical incidents, complete incident reports and follow safety protocols.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of direct service delivery in harm‑reduction settings.
• Experience responding to overdoses, including naloxone and oxygen administration.
• Lived or living experience with drug use and related health or social barriers.
• Diploma in health or social services or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• First Aid training with CPR‑C certification.
• Computer proficiency for navigating client files, databases, email and word‑processing.
• Knowledge of local health and social service resources, safer drug use, HIV/HCV, mental health and trauma‑informed practice.

• Hourly wage of $33.49 (CAD) with stepped increases based on seniority.
