Assistant/Associate Professor – Research & Teaching (Social Work)

About the role

The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary seeks a full‑time Assistant or Associate Professor with a focus on research and teaching. The appointment can be tenure‑track (Assistant) or with tenure (Associate) and may start in January 2027 or a mutually agreed date, based at either the Calgary or Edmonton campus.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct community‑engaged, cross‑sectoral research that addresses social work practice, mental health, Indigenous and Africentric worldviews, AI impact, and other priority areas.
• Teach undergraduate, graduate and/or doctoral courses in BSW, MSW, and related fields.
• Secure external funding, manage grants, and steward donor relationships to support collaborative research partnerships.
• Provide service to the faculty, university, and professional bodies, including leadership or preparation for faculty leadership.
• Build and maintain long‑term, trust‑based relationships with community partners and mentor students and junior researchers.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Social Work or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated record of community‑engaged research and scholarship.
• Experience teaching at the BSW, MSW, or PhD level.
• Evidence of successful grant acquisition and research leadership.
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous/ marginalized community engagement.
