Assistant Professor – Structural & Earthquake Engineering

About the role

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full‑time tenure‑track faculty position in Structural and Earthquake Engineering. The appointment will start on July 1, 2027 (or a mutually agreed date) and offers the opportunity to lead an internationally recognised research programme while contributing to high‑quality teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an independent, externally funded research programme in structural and earthquake engineering.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise graduate students.
• Integrate the department’s Earthquake Engineering Research Facility and Structures Laboratory into research and teaching activities.
• Provide service to the university, professional societies, and the broader community.
• Support equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity initiatives within the department.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC within five years of appointment.
• Evidence of potential to secure external research funding.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervise graduate research.
• Commitment to service and to fostering an inclusive academic environment.
