Assistant Professor – Software Engineering & AI

About the role

The School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph is seeking two tenure‑track Assistant Professors in Software Engineering and Applied AI, with an earliest start date of 1 January 2027. The positions are intended to strengthen the department’s research and teaching in these rapidly evolving areas.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an independent, fundable research program in Software Engineering and/or Artificial Intelligence.
• Secure external research funding from agencies such as NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, or comparable bodies.
• Teach three undergraduate or graduate courses per year, covering core computer‑science topics and specialized AI subjects.
• Supervise MSc and PhD students on research projects.
• Contribute to departmental, college, and university service through committee work, outreach, and community engagement.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated record of high‑impact scholarship with potential for external funding.
• Strong interest and ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Experience supervising students or staff on research‑oriented projects is preferred.
• Evidence of community engagement such as conference organization, outreach, or involvement in student groups.
