Assistant Professor in Earth and Planetary Sciences, Solid Earth Processes

About the role

McGill University’s Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position focused on Solid Earth Processes. The successful candidate will lead interdisciplinary research on the chemical, mineralogical, and physical composition of the solid Earth and its interactions with other Earth systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an independent research program with strong potential for external funding.
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including mineralogy, petrology, and related topics.
• Participate in departmental, university, and broader scholarly service activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Earth Sciences (or a closely related field) by the start date.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement and an original research agenda.
• Ability to attract external research funding.

Required skills

• Interdisciplinary research integrating geological observations with analytical, experimental, and theoretical approaches.
• Expertise in mineralogical and petrological analysis.
