Accountant V – IFRS & ECL Specialist

About the role

This position supports a leading North‑American financial institution in Toronto. The Accountant V will serve as the primary contact for US Retail segment accounting matters, focusing on Expected Credit Loss (ECL) and IFRS compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the main APA liaison for US Retail and bank‑wide ECL issues.
• Provide expert technical accounting advice under IFRS to business units.
• Translate complex accounting topics into clear guidance for stakeholders.
• Conduct research, benchmarking, and prepare accounting memoranda and presentation materials.
• Assist in the preparation of external consolidated shareholder reports, including MD&A, financial statements, and disclosures.
• Stay current with IFRS pronouncements and deliver periodic technical updates.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal partners (Finance, Tax, Risk, IR) and external parties (auditors, advisors).
• Contribute to the development, maintenance, and interpretation of bank‑wide accounting policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designation.
• Minimum 5 years of financial accounting experience.
• At least 3 years of experience researching and resolving complex IFRS issues, especially ECL and financial instruments.
• 3 years of CPA/CA experience and 3 years of ECL exposure.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
