Accountant III – IFRS Financial Instruments & Consolidation

About the role

We are seeking an Accountant III to support a leading North American financial institution. The role focuses on complex accounting matters related to financial instruments, consolidation, and IFRS reporting within a hybrid work environment in Toronto.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a subject‑matter expert on accounting issues, especially financial instruments and consolidation.
• Review new business and product proposals, conduct IFRS 9 business‑model assessments, and advise on accounting implications.
• Perform technical accounting research, benchmarking, and prepare memos and presentation materials.
• Assist in preparing external consolidated shareholder reports, including MD&A, financial statements, notes, and supplemental information.
• Stay current with IFRS pronouncements, deliver periodic technical updates, and draft accounting policy updates.
• Provide timely IFRS advisory services to internal and external stakeholders, translating complex topics into actionable guidance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with finance partners, auditors, and peer institutions.
• Execute ad‑hoc tasks to support the accounting team as needed.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary degree in accounting, finance, commerce or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of financial accounting experience, preferably in a banking or financial‑services environment.
• Demonstrated ability to research and resolve complex IFRS issues, especially around financial instruments and consolidation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
