Training Coordinator & Supervisor – Animal Facility

About the role

The Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute Medical Animal Facility is looking for a Training Coordinator and Supervisor to lead and mentor a team of animal‑care technicians. This position supports pre‑clinical research across several campuses, ensuring high‑quality animal husbandry, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective stakeholder collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and train animal‑care technicians, husbandry staff, and students on daily tasks and specialized procedures.
• Maintain and update facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and provide guidance on protocol submissions.
• Assist with contract administration and ensure compliance with UBC Animal Care Committee, Canadian Council on Animal Care, and Good Laboratory Practices.
• Coordinate with Operations Manager, Clinical Veterinarians, and Principal Investigators to meet research needs.
• Work across multiple sites, including the Jack Bell Research Centre and the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, based on operational requirements.

Required profile

• Experience supervising animal‑care technicians in a research or laboratory setting.
• Strong knowledge of animal research regulations and compliance standards.
• Ability to train staff, provide clear guidance, and support internal and external stakeholders.
• Flexibility to work at different facility locations as needed.
