Supervisor, Transit Operations

About the role

The Supervisor, Transit Operations leads a team of transit operators to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient daily service delivery. Reporting to the Manager of Transit Operations, this role is responsible for maintaining compliance with policies, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements while supporting staff performance and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise transit operators and oversee daily service delivery in line with transit standards and legislative requirements.
• Coordinate on‑route strategies, manage route supervisors during breakdowns, detours, emergencies, and collisions.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend corrective actions to meet service goals.
• Develop and manage work schedules for route supervisors to ensure continuous coverage.
• Recruit, train, motivate, evaluate, and discipline transit operators and route supervisors as needed.
• Prepare and participate in grievance and arbitration processes per the ATU collective bargaining agreement.
• Conduct site visits, incident investigations, and root‑cause analyses to improve safety and performance.
• Produce statistical reports, data analyses, and recommendations for policy or procedural changes.

• Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, senior management, and the public.
• Ability to interpret and enforce collective bargaining agreements and standard operating procedures.
• Analytical mindset for reviewing performance data and implementing improvements.
