Sessional Lecturer – Paleobiology (ERS411H5)

About the role

The University of Toronto Mississauga seeks a Sessional Lecturer I to teach ERS411H5 Paleobiology during the Fall term. This in‑person course explores the evolutionary history of organisms and ecosystems over 3.5 billion years, integrating geochemistry and taphonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prepare, and deliver lecture and practical sessions.
• Develop, administer, and grade assignments, tests, and examinations.
• Calculate and submit final grades in a timely manner.
• Supervise and provide direction to teaching assistants.
• Maintain regular office hours for student support.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Earth Science or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated high‑quality research activity within the past four years.
• Proven teaching experience and evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., student surveys, letters).
• Ability to present a sample lecture on course material if requested.

Required skills

• Subject‑matter expertise in paleobiology, geochemistry, and taphonomy.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term appointment from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026.
• Salary of $9,997.47 CAD for the term, inclusive of vacation pay.
• Support from teaching assistants for practical sections.
