Senior Signaling Engineer – Rail Projects (Hybrid)

About the role

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Signaling Engineer to lead technical delivery on railway projects in Toronto on a hybrid basis. You will act as a key technical leader within a rail and transit engineering team, shaping safe and reliable signalling solutions for commuter rail, subway, light rail and heavy rail systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and analysis of rail signalling systems, reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and procurement documents.
• Perform detailed technical checks of signalling and circuit designs produced by internal teams and external partners.
• Develop compliant signalling schemes aligned with standards, codes, client requirements and operating rules.
• Act as technical authority across multiple projects, ensuring quality, safety and design consistency.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and specialists.
• Engage with stakeholders to communicate technical concepts and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Plan and execute project work while managing scope, schedule, budget and resources.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer designation, eligibility for registration, or Engineer‑in‑Training status.
• Typically 10+ years of experience in rail systems engineering or signalling.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams in a consulting or project‑based environment.

Required skills

• Conventional signalling systems, including braking calculations, control tables, schematics and phasing plans.
• Knowledge of advanced signalling technologies such as communications‑based train control (CBTC).
• Strong understanding of industry standards, codes and operating rules.
• Project management certification (asset).
