Registered Fire Protection Technician

About the role

Community Fire Prevention Ltd, a division of Onyx‑Fire, is seeking Registered Fire Protection Technicians to join its growing team in Kelowna. The role involves leading fire and life‑safety inspections, maintenance, repairs and mentoring junior technicians while delivering next‑level service to clients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform monthly, quarterly, semi‑annual and annual fire inspections in accordance with the 2018 BC Fire Code and applicable CAN/ULC, NFPA and CSA standards.
• Repair, troubleshoot and maintain fire and life‑safety equipment following the same codes and standards.
• Complete electronic inspection reports, deficiency reports and related documentation accurately and promptly.
• Participate in the after‑hours emergency on‑call rotation.
• Communicate inspection results, project delays and status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and coach Junior Fire Protection Technicians.
• Maintain certification with ASTTBC and/or CFAA and stay current with industry best practices.

Required profile

• ASTTBC RFPT or CFAA certified technician.
• Valid BC driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Strong background in electrical, electronics or mechanical systems.
• Detail‑oriented, able to work in a fast‑paced environment and solve problems proactively.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and a positive attitude.

Required skills

• ASTTBC RFPT certification or CFAA certification.
• Knowledge of 2018 BC Fire Code, CAN/ULC, NFPA and CSA standards.
• Electrical, electronic and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Life‑safety system assessment and repair.
