Programmer/Developer – Data & Geospatial Applications

About the role

This position supports a mission‑driven data and analytics environment focused on large‑scale conservation efforts across Canada. You will design, develop, and maintain applications, data pipelines, and geospatial workflows that turn complex environmental datasets into actionable insights for internal teams and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain web applications, data tools and geospatial processing pipelines supporting conservation decision‑making.
• Develop and automate spatial analysis workflows in Python, including ArcPy scripting and large‑scale geospatial processing.
• Create, optimise and maintain SQL‑based data models and queries for structured data management and reporting.
• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting tools for data visualisation and stakeholder communication.
• Work with raster and vector geospatial datasets to support national and regional conservation analysis.
• Maintain version‑controlled development workflows using Git and GitHub.
• Support scalable data pipeline development and contribute to data quality and architecture improvements.
• Collaborate with GIS analysts, researchers and external partners to translate complex spatial data into usable insights.
• Participate in application deployment, DevOps and system support activities.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of software development experience, preferably with geospatial or environmental data systems.
• University degree in Computer Science, Geomatics, Environmental Science, Biology or a related field.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical outputs to non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Python (including ArcPy for geospatial processing)
• SQL for data querying and modelling
• Power BI or similar data‑visualisation tools
• Git and GitHub for collaborative development
• Experience building and maintaining production web applications
• Hands‑on experience with GIS tools and spatial analysis of raster and vector datasets
• Familiarity with DevOps and application deployment processes
