Mechanical Designer

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Designer to join a defense‑industry client’s mechanical design team. The role will involve contributing to the full product lifecycle of next‑generation armored vehicle systems, from concept through prototype validation to production support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop military vehicle subsystems with focus on performance, manufacturability and supportability.
• Create 3D CAD models from concept to detailed engineering using PTC Creo.
• Select materials and define processing parameters for armor and structural components.
• Collaborate with production, quality and manufacturing teams to resolve design issues and optimise processes.
• Provide technical support to Quality and Manufacturing Engineering for proposed designs.
• Investigate and implement corrective actions for design or production challenges.
• Support first‑off and prototype builds, including testing and validation.
• Raise and manage engineering change requests.
• Contribute to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) for sustainable product maintenance.
• Design tooling, jigs and fixtures for welding, assembly and machining.
• Ensure components and assemblies are manufacturable at scale while meeting strict quality standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience using 3D CAD software.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• Experience in engineer‑to‑order environments from concept to product launch.
• Familiarity with PLM tools.

• Composite material processes (infusion, compression molding) – a plus
• Tooling design and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
