About the role

The Alberta Securities Commission is seeking a Litigation Counsel to prosecute alleged violations of the Securities Act (Alberta) in administrative hearings. This role offers hands‑on advocacy in the public interest, allowing you to manage cases from investigation through resolution or hearing while working within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with investigators, evidence‑management analysts and other counsel to disrupt securities misconduct and prepare for hearings, trials and appeals.
  • Prepare legal memoranda, conduct legal research, and draft notices of hearing, submissions and other procedural documents.
  • Supervise disclosure, make interim and interlocutory applications to courts and the ASC, and prepare witnesses for testimony.
  • Negotiate settlements where appropriate and provide legal advice on securities‑law issues to ASC staff.

Required profile

  • Law degree and active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • Minimum three years of litigation experience, preferably in securities, administrative or trial work.
  • Strong analytical ability, proactive self‑motivation and excellent oral and written advocacy skills.
  • Interest in capital‑market regulation and the public‑interest mission of the ASC.
