Liaison Librarian – Academic Music Library

About the role

The Marvin Duchow Music Library seeks a service‑oriented, highly collaborative liaison librarian to lead library and information services that support teaching, learning, research, and outreach, with a focus on graduate students of the Schulich School of Music.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑lead and develop the library’s Information Literacy Program, ensuring it stays current with higher‑education trends.
• Deliver information‑literacy classes and training for doctoral candidates and instructors.
• Provide expert consultation and research support for on‑site and remote users in music‑related resources.
• Develop and maintain communication links with academic departments and university centres to align library services with curricular needs.
• Supervise library staff in designated areas, coordinate workflows, and contribute to collection development in music disciplines.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library or Information Studies (MLIS, MIS, or MI) plus a degree in music.
• Experience serving users in an academic library setting.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct information‑skills classes for graduate cohorts.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and knowledge‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic and networked information resources.
• Knowledge of information and communications technology relevant to music research.
