Heavy Civil Superintendent

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Superintendent to lead construction projects for a well‑established general contractor specializing in sewers, watermains, transportation, road and bridge reconstruction. The role is based in Toronto and involves direct supervision of crews, subcontractors, and equipment to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and direct construction activities in strict accordance with contract documents and industry best practices.
• Verify safety compliance for all labour forces, including subcontractors, and enforce safety and quality‑control policies.
• Prepare and maintain daily reports, journals, health and safety documentation, and equipment maintenance records.
• Coordinate crews, owned and rented equipment, material supply, and subcontractors while maintaining positive relationships with owners, unions, and stakeholders.
• Analyze specifications and drawings, contribute to construction plans and schedules prior to mobilization.
• Monitor site compliance with owner standards, design procedures, and contract specifications.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Coordinators to resolve design conflicts and schedule resources.
• Attend and occasionally lead project meetings with internal and external parties.
• Review cost reports, identify budget variances, and implement corrective actions.
• Support senior management with additional assignments as required.

Required profile

• Engineering or Construction Management degree, or equivalent field experience.
• 8+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, including at least 4 years in a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent role.
• Strong communication skills and a proven ability to lead crews safely.
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence.
