About the role

Reliable Controls is seeking a Hardware Electronics Developer for an 8‑month co‑op term starting January 2027. The role supports the design, testing, and prototyping of HVAC control electronics, contributing to the company’s net‑zero building initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Design electrical/electronic circuits for HVAC controls and sensors.
• Create schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer or Eagle.
• Assemble prototypes by hand‑SMT and through‑hole techniques.
• Develop and build production test jigs and document test procedures.
• Conduct thermal, cycle, endurance, UL/CE, safety, smoke control, and FCC testing.
• Re‑work defective units and verify operation with RCC software (RC‑Studio/RC‑Toolkit).

Required profile

• Enrolled in a post‑secondary co‑op program with coursework in circuits, digital systems, microprocessors, and programming.
• Hands‑on experience with electronics debugging, soldering, and lab equipment such as oscilloscopes.
• Familiarity with C/C++ and Python programming.
• Understanding of digital and analog circuit design principles and microcontroller families.

Required skills

• PCB design and schematic capture (Altium Designer, Eagle).
• Soldering, hand‑SMT, and through‑hole assembly.
• Use of oscilloscopes and other test equipment.
• Programming in C/C++ and Python.
• Knowledge of embedded systems, RTOS, device drivers, and communication protocols.
• Power electronics and power‑supply design.
