Gallery Clerk

About the role

The Gallery Clerk supports the daily operations of the Market Gallery, providing front‑line service to visitors and assisting with administrative tasks that keep the gallery running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome visitors, answer questions about exhibitions, local history, and the City’s fine‑art collection.
• Open and close the gallery each day, ensuring security and compliance with gallery regulations.
• Patrol gallery areas to deter vandalism and theft, reporting any issues to the Site Lead.
• Handle sales of postcards, catalogues, and other gallery merchandise, and manage financial transactions.
• Record daily and special attendance figures and maintain accurate visitor logs.
• Prepare and distribute bulk mailings and maintain mailing lists for gallery literature and invitations.
• Maintain office supplies, operate the photocopier, and manage incoming mail.
• Update the fine‑art database and keep permanent collection records current.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in art history, visual art, museum studies or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Significant customer‑service experience in a public‑facing arts, culture, gallery or museum environment.
• Experience maintaining accurate records, using database systems and Microsoft Office applications.

• Competitive hourly wage ranging from $32.83 to $35.82 (CAD).
• Full‑time permanent position with a regular Wednesday‑to‑Sunday schedule.
• On‑site work at the historic Market Gallery in downtown Toronto.
