Frontend Engineer – Next.js Lead (Toronto)

About the role

We are seeking a Frontend Engineer to lead the redesign of high‑traffic, public‑facing digital experiences for a major Canadian bank. This contract role focuses on building secure, accessible, and high‑performance web interfaces using modern React and Next.js technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement reusable component libraries and enterprise‑grade UI frameworks.
• Architect data flow from complex backend services into modern React components.
• Optimize page loads and Core Web Vitals through Server‑Side Rendering (SSR) and Static Site Generation (SSG).
• Ensure AODA compliance and accessibility across all user interfaces.
• Integrate with REST and GraphQL APIs and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate in a hybrid, high‑velocity engineering lab following Agile practices.

Required profile

• Several years of production experience with Next.js, including SSR and SSG strategies.
• Strong architectural mindset for scalable, maintainable UI solutions.
• Commitment to accessibility (AODA) and security standards in a regulated financial environment.
• Experience working within large, Agile organizations with strict governance.
